Matthias Thielmann, MD, PhD, is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Professor for Cardiac Surgery at the West-German Heart & Vascular Center Essen, Medical Faculty of the University Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany. He is board certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
He is Secretary General and Executive Committee Member of the European Society for Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery and Secretary of the European Society for Cardiology Working Group Nucleus on Cardiovascular Surgery. He is Member of the Ethics Commission of the Faculty of Medicine, University Duisburg-Essen. A decade of expertise in clinical trials and post-market studies with a focus on surgical revascularization, cardio-protective strategies in cardiovascular surgery as well as innovative device products for minimal invasive valve surgery and transcatheter implantation techniques.
His clinical interests acute coronary syndromes; cardiac biomarker research; ischemia/reperfusion injury research; cardio-protection; coronary artery bypass grafting; minimal-invasive valve surgery; aortic valve surgery; mitral & tricuspid valve repair; transcatheter and endovascular techniques; outcome research and beating heart surgery.
